What is Voice Movement Therapy?
"I have never encountered a method that is so fun, yet so powerful. Through VMT, I gained access to new parts of my voice and, more importantly, I also discovered new parts of my Self. The process was, and still is, exciting and gratifying. Carolyn is a great teacher who I trust completely with body and soul!" - L.J.
What is Voice Movement Therapy?
Voice MovementTherapy - VMT - is a healing arts therapy that uses your voice and your body's natural movements & rhythms to access new forms of communication and responses to life. It can enable anyone from any walk of life to access and safely witness feelings locked - shame, anger, despair, trauma, and grief. The voice is the most powerful instrument by which we communicate. However, many people feel trapped, emotionally and physically, when they attempt to use their voice to express themselves - their needs, wants, desires, fears, joys - that which is trapped within their core.
Most people experience Voice Movement Therapy in private sessions, though there are groups that meet regularly for those who work better in such a setting. VMT utilizes sounds, song, art, lyrical poems, drama, theatre and movement to enable clients to reveal the pain of loss, sorrow & sadness, anger, guilt, joy & laughter, with the goal of discovering and developing tools of communication that transcend simple language-oriented speech.
VMT is catered to the needs of the individual, taking the client from a starting point that is comfortable and safe, utlizing strengths to delve deeper and deeper into the experience.
